LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man has been arrested after police say he tried to rape a woman on Churchill Downs property.

According to an arrest report, the incident took place Monday night in one of the barns at Churchill Downs.

Police say a woman was in the loft of Barn 41 in order to get a towel, when 24-year-old Joe Fernandez followed her up and forced her onto some hay.

Police say he fondled her and tried to rape her, telling her that it could all happen, "the good way or the bad way."

That's when, police say, the woman screamed for help and Fernandez ran away.

Officers later found Fernandez in his room. According to the arrest report, he allegedly told them, "he got emotional, and went too far in trying to have sex with the victim, despite her not wanting to have sex with him."

He was arrested and charged with attempted rape.
