Parents of students injured in I-64 bus crash file suit

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The parents of two students injured during last week's bus crash on I-64 have sued the bus operator, saying the vehicle had not been maintained properly.  It also alleges negligence by the bus driver.

The bus involved in the accident, which was carrying students from Waggener High School, crossed over two lanes of traffic and slammed into a concrete median.  There was also a passenger car that spun out which sent one child to the hospital.

30 students and five adults were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses say one of the bus' tires blew.

One of the parents bringing the suit was aboard the bus and was injured when it crashed.

Commonwealth Bus Service & Transportation Inc. is named as the defendant in the suit, which seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. No one answered the phone at a number for the company Friday.
