Fundraiser for Officer Ellis at River City FOP Lodge

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More than 300 items are being auctioned off right now at a benefit to help the family of fallen Bardstown Police officer Jason Ellis.

Their initial goal was to raise 10-thousand dollars but by the looks of things, they're going to surpass that goal.

Bardstown Chief of Police Rick McCubbin say he's humbled at all the support they've received after losing officer Jason Ellis just one month ago.

Officer Ellis was killed in late May when he was shot several times after stopping to clear tree limbs from an off ramp.

Support for the Bardstown community and Ellis' family has been pouring in since the tragedy.

"I've gotten donations form Massachusetts, just people that saw it on Facebook and said I need to help," says Anita Simkins, FOP.

Anita Simkins with the River City FOP Lodge in Louisville says they've been planning this auction for over two weeks. They had to stop accepting donations because they ran out of room.
