LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel on the east end bridge will start this week.
The blasting won't happen until 2 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, but it will have an impact on traffic in that area, according to a website for the Ohio River Bridges Project.
Prior to each blast, traffic within the area of U.S. 42 and the Gene Synder Freeway must be stopped for 5 to 20 minutes, the website states.
Crews claim that's for the safety of drivers and the workers.
Traffic stops will occur on near the end of the Gene Synder Freeway between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42. They will also occur on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch and Bridgepointe Boulevard.
No blasting will occur within 500 feet of any residence prior to the completion of a pre-blast survey for that residence, the site states.
