Makeover for Red Feather sculpture schedule for July

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An iconic sculpture in downtown Louisville has a makeover coming very soon.

The Alexander Calder sculpture,or better known as the Red Feather, has been on the steps of the Kentucky Center since it was installed in 1989.

But coming up in July, it will be taken away for professional restoration and painting.

In order to make the changes to sculpture, a rigging company will disassemble it and take it to a company in Virginia.

The Red Feather is expected to return to Louisville in October.

The Alexander Calder sculpture was purchased from the Pace Gallery in New York City as a gift to the Kentucky Center from the Mary and Barry Bingham Sr. Fund and the Humana Foundation.
