LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville mom has been arrested after police say she abandoned her 3-year-old daughter while she drove around talking on a cell phone.

According to an arrest report, the incident took place shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex on Bridgeview Lane, near the intersection of Westport Road and Ormsby Lane.

Police say they received a report of a 3-year-old girl wandering the hallway at the complex without shoes, wearing only a t-shirt and a diaper. She was allegedly crying for "Mommy."

A resident called police after the girl wandered into his apartment, the arrest report states.

Police say they arrived on the scene and called the child's mother, 34-year-old Nicole R. Gauthier, who came home. Officers say she had been gone for at least 80 minutes. She allegedly told police she had been driving around the apartment complex talking on a cell phone, and she didn't realize she'd been gone for so long.

Gauthier was arrested and charged with abandonment of a minor, according to the arrest report. The 3-year-old was placed in the care of her grandmother.
