Dedication plaque goes up to honor Officer Jason Ellis

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Bardstown Police Department continues to show support, and honor the memory of the first officer to fall in the line of duty at the department.

On Tuesday afternoon, a black granite plaque at the police department is set to be revealed in honor of Officer Jason Ellis.

This dedication comes just one month after Officer Ellis was ambushed and gunned down when he stopped to remove tree limbs from the roadway.

Just days ago an auction was held at the River City FOP Lodge to help raise money for the family of Officer Ellis.

Fundraiser officials say the support and donations to the fundraiser have spanned well beyond Kentuckiana.

"I've gotten donations form Massachusetts, just people that saw it on Facebook and said I need to help," says Anita Simkins, FOP.

Bardstown Police say they believe more than one suspect was involved in the shooting. They say the way the shooting took place was to elaborate to be pulled off by a single person.

So far, no arrests have been made in the case.
