Latest zebra at Louisville Zoo now has a name

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Zoo's newest zebra now has a name.  It's called Ziva, after a character on the TV show NCIS.  The foal's father is named Gibbs, after another character on the show.

Visitors to the zoo submitted names in a contest, and those names were soon narrowed to three -- Ziva, Abby, and Katniss.  Visitors dropped money into a naming kiosk on the zoo's front plaza.  Zack Vannarsdall from Carrollton, KY submitted the winning name.

Ziva was the first Hartmann's mountain zebra foal to be born at the zoo in 13 years.  She was born January 18.

All the money from the naming contest will go to care and feed Ziva and the other zoo animals.
