Summer camp helps children of migrant workers

OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) -- A summer camp in Daviess County is aiming to make it easier for migrant children to transition into fall classes.

Camp Curiosity began last week at Southern Oaks Elementary school and will go through July 19 for migrant children in kindergarten through eighth grade. The Messenger-Inquirer reports that children who attend the camp have fun while learning math and language skills.

Camp Curiosity Administrator Patrick Riley says there around about 75 students participating in the camp, which is taught by 25 faculty members.

He says the camp, which is in its third year, is designed to help reduce the achievement gap with migrant students.
