LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Homicide detectives are investigating after a man's body was found in one of Louisville's busiest parks early Monday morning.
The man was identified as 24-year-old Brandon Shakelford of Louisville.
LMPD spokeswoman Alicia Smiley says a police officer who was on routine patrol found Shakelford's body parked in a silver car in Cox Park around 2:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner's office says the cause of death was gunshot wounds.
Officials say they believe it was the only car in the lot.
Investigators have not yet released information on how the man died, but they do suspect foul play.
Cox Park is on River Road near Louisville's Water Tower. The park was closed for several hours while investigators looked for clues, but has since re-opened.
Smiley says it has been a couple of years since a murder was reported in the park.
