LOUISVILLE, Ky.  (WDRB) -- Firefighters responded to heavy smoke and flames burning outside Lassiter Middle School on Candleworth Drive Friday night.  MetroSafe said storage bins caught fire about 9:30 p.m., but the school building did not catch fire.

There were no reports of injuries, authorities said.

"I just saw the flames and my uncle is a firefighter and I knew that he would enjoy seeing it," said Daren Reichle, a neighbor who took video of the scene.

An arson investigator was at the scene, WDRB News photojournalist Jamie Devere reported.  That would be standard procedure in a fire on public school property.

"The arson folks are investigating fireworks displays fireworks being set off around the building," said Don Wittry, Fairdale fire chief. "All of these things are being followed up on."

Firefighters from Fairdale and Pleasure Ridge Park departments responded.  Look for further information on the WDRB Facebook page and WDRB in the Morning, 6-9 a.m. Saturday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Metro Arson squad.
