Mobile County constable faces charge in Kentucky

Posted: Updated:

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- A Mobile County constable is awaiting trial in Kentucky on a federal gun charge.
Precinct 87 Constable Scott Bond is scheduled for trial Oct. 7 in Lexington. U.S. Attorney Kerry Harvey said Bond is accused of participating in a scheme for straw purchases of guns.

Bond previously owned a firearms business in Lexington and is accused of falsifying federal documents which lists a gun's buyer. He's accused of selling 40 guns to an accomplice, Kwadwo Antwi Darko-Mensah, who then took the guns to Ghana.

Bond pleaded not guilty and was allowed to return to Alabama while awaiting trial.

Mobile County Precinct 58 Constable Leo Bullock III told WPMI-TV  that he and fellow constables have asked Bond to step aside while the case is pending, but he has not.
