Ky woman using Facebook to reunite pets, owners

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- A Lexington woman is using a Facebook page to help reunite lost pets and their owners.

Self-described stay-at-home mom Debbie Wimsatt told the Lexington Herald-Leader that the page "Lost and Found Pets of Lexington, KY" has reunited about 25 pets with their human families since being started up on Dec. 31.

Users can post photos of their missing pets and ask the community to help find them. People also post photos of animals they've found in their neighborhood in efforts to get the pet home.

Wimsatt spends 6 to 7 hours a day updating the page and helping followers understand that animal control is only required to hold stray dogs for five days and cats for three.

The page has received more than 2,250 likes since going online.
