LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Hundreds of teens received summer jobs thanks to several local businesses.

Mayor Greg Fischer's SummerWorks Program helped 1500 16 to 21-year-olds land a summer job.

On Tuesday the mayor thanked the business community for offering the opportunities.

He used Thorton's as a backdrop, because it was one of the dozens of companies that took part in the program.

Mayor Fischer talked about how the summer jobs gave the teens a chance to earn money throughout the summer, and also be exposed to "the world of work at the same time."

The mayor also discussed how the teens had the chance to meet mentors on the jobs who could help develop their careers.

This is the third year the Mayor has reached out to business leaders to support the summer jobs program.
