Weight requirements mean obese Boy Scouts can't attend National Jamboree

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTOWN, WV (WDRB) -- The Boy Scouts have some weight requirements for its National Scouts Jamboree.

To attend the annual event -- happening now in West Virginia -- participants must have a body mass index below 40.

The Boy Scouts of America say it's not safe for obese children and adults to participate in the physical activities.

The organization says it offers "thousands" of other summer camp experiences that do not have this requirement.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children with a BMI between 32 and 39 are considered obese.
