LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they have arrested an intoxicated mother for leaving her child unsupervised at Louisville's Waterfront Park.
It happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Police say they were called to E. Witherspoon Street after someone reported that a woman was sleeping in the area of Waterfront Park. They allegedly found 22-year-old Gloree D. Whirlwind passed out on the ground, with her 4-month-old daughter sitting in a car seat, unsupervised.
It was not clear to police how long the pair had been there.
Police say Whirlwind smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted she had been drinking. Officers add that her actions placed her infant daughter in "extreme danger," particularly because inclement weather had been in the area.
Whirlwind was arrested and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place and endangering the welfare of a minor. The 4-month-old was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital. Her condition is not known.
