LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Prosecutors have asked a judge to drop a murder charge in the killing of a teenager almost two years ago. The murder charge against Roderick Thomas could be re-filed at a later time.
He was accused of killing 17-year-old Cody Cantrell during a fight in Algonquin Park in October of 2011. However, in court on Tuesday, prosecutors said key witnesses in the case could not be found, so they did not go forward with Thomas's trial.
Police had said Thomas shot Cantrell several times and was identified as the shooter by several witnesses.
Officers at the time said they were surprised by the brazenness of the shooting, which took place about 5:30 in the afternoon on October 6, 2011.
