SLIDESHOW -- Not your typical fast food: "KFC eleven"

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- With local artwork on the walls, KFC eleven is hoping to take a bite out of the restaurant scene in the Highlands. The menu is completely different from your regular KFC.

Chris Obligato, the Director of Operations says, "Our employees will be taking fresh grilled chicken and putting it right on the sandwich for them."

At the new KFC eleven, the focus is on being fresh. You'll find flatbreads, salads, rice bowls, sandwiches on brioche buns, and specialty drinks liked iced lemonade and cookies and cream iced drinks. Customer can even watch as food is prepared.

David Menis, the Senior Manager of Concept Development says, "You can either go down the line and go grab a drink and they'll call your name out or you can follow your food down the line and you can go pick it up at the end. So, there is no table service at the restaurant."

Obligato says your food will be ready quickly.

"It's about three to, on the high end five minutes. The average order, we did 15,000 transactions in our lab testing and during those 15,000 transactions, our average ticket time was 3 minutes 30 seconds," Obligato said.

KFC eleven is named after Colonel Sander's original recipe of 11 herbs and spices. But amid the fun chicken sculptures and the Colonel Sanders' book, don't expect to see the traditional logo featuring the Colonel's famous face.

Anne Fuller, the Senior Director of Development says, "We have no intention of taking the Colonel away from the brand. We want to do in this restaurant is to get back to the Colonel's spirit and innovation.... back in the day when he was first of all a foodie and secondly, really in the kitchen and always stood up for quality food."

Menis says, "We've taken a look at design as well and how can we create an environment that is comfortable that people want to hang out in. So, we've taken a look across the entire restaurant to design an innovation restaurant."

KFC is hoping the diverse menu will help the brand reach out to people who may not have eaten at the fast food chain before.

KFC eleven will have a soft opening on August 5th with the grand opening on August 11th.
