LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The family of a woman killed after being hit by an ambulance in Southern Indiana will get $225,000.
A jury ruled the Sellersburg Volunteer Fire Department must pay the estate of 75-year-old Opal Couch.
She was killed when an ambulance hit her car in 2009.
The fire department's attorney says he expects to appeal the decision.
He says the ambulance had its lights and sirens activated, and Couch was using a cellphone when the crash happened.
The family's attorney says he hopes the verdict will lead to safer ambulance driving.
