INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Investigators say it could take a week or more to determine what caused the crash of an Indianapolis church bus that killed three people and injured dozens.
State Police 1st Sgt. Tyler Utterback tells WTHR-TV that inspectors are checking out the brake system on the bus to verify the driver's account that the brakes suddenly failed while exiting Interstate 465 on Saturday.
Utterback tells The Indianapolis Star that investigators are asking Colonial Hills Baptist Church of Indianapolis for maintenance records on the bus, but that the church isn't required to provide them.
An Indiana University Health spokeswoman said Tuesday that two teenagers remained hospitalized in good condition from the crash.
Funerals for youth pastor Chad Phelps, his wife, Courtney, and church member Tonya Weindorf are planned Friday and Saturday.
