LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville Metro Police officer charged with assault has been found not guilty.  Officer Charles Wheeler was accused of beating a man in a downtown night club in December of 2011.

Ricky Brent said he ended up with a black eye and several bruises after the attack, which he said happened at the Prime Lounge on Main Street.

If he had been convicted, Officer Wheeler had faced up to 365 days in jail and a $500 fine.  Steve Schroering, Officer Wheeler's attorney released a statement Thursday saying, "Officer Wheeler is relieved that the jury heard all the facts of the case and found the charges to be without merit."
