Eighteen Metro Corrections officers graduate

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville has 18 new Metro Corrections officers.  They graduated Friday morning at Metro Hall.

The class has spent the last nine weeks training in the court process, search and seizure, and firearms, among other valuable skills to prepare them for what's ahead.

Doug Hamilton with Louisville Metro Public Services explains, "Corrections Officers have a unique job in public safety that very few others have.  There is no one -- judges, prosecutors, or police officers --who have more access to accused and convicted criminals than correction officers do."

The next step -- officers will spend the next 30 days in the field shadowing officers one-on-one.
