Volunteers put backpacks together for students

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thousand of Kentucky students will head back to class with free school supplies.

Volunteers from LG&E spent Friday stocking those backpacks with pens, paper, crayons and everything else they'll need.

The supplies are expensive and it's a way to help families in need.

These volunteers stuffed 3200 backpacks today, and that's not all that's being given away.

LG&E/KU is giving them away on a first come-first-served basis at its office at 820 W. Broadway starting at 10 am tomorrow.

It's distributing 16,000 free backpacks across Kentucky.
