Pointed speeches and barbeque expected at Fancy Farms

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thousands are set to flock to western Kentucky on Saturday to see politicians gear up for the political season with some feisty speeches.

The annual Fancy Farm picnic is normally an event filled with mud slinging and barbecue in Western Kentucky.

All eyes this year are on the U.S. Senate Race. There are a couple of newcomers this year who may give one repeat guest a run for his money. Democrat and Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes will be challenging Senator Mitch McConnell for his Senate seat.

Grimes made her announcement earlier this week. A Democratic consultant says doing well at the event will give her an edge against McConnell.

Republican Candidate Matt Bevin was a last minute add-in to the event. Bevin is also challenging McConnell in the GOP primary.

Fancy Farm will also show a preview of the Governor's Race in 2015.
