Disadvantaged students receive stuffed backpacks

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- They say blessings come in small packages, and for some students they came in backpacks.

LG&E and Kentucky Utilities stuffed more than 16,000 backpacks of school supplies for disadvantaged students in the Louisville and Lexington areas.

Supplies including paper, pencils and folders were purchased through a partnership with Wal-Mart.

Volunteers will hand out the backpacks at various back to school events and anticipate getting rid of every single backpack.

3,200 backpacks will be distributed among Louisville area students and 800 will go to JCPS resource centers.
