LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Opening statements for the army psychiatrist facing the death penalty in the shooting rampage at Fort Hood.
Nidal Hasan is charged with killing 13 soldiers and injuring 32 in 2009.
Hasan told jurors "the evidence will clearly show that I am the shooter."
He is representing himself, and planned to argue that he carried out the attack to protect insurgents fighting U-S troops.
But the judge blocked his strategy.
A prosecutor said Hasan thoroughly planned the attack, and then tried to "kill as many soldiers as he could."
The 13 jurors are all military officers.
