Louisville opens at No. 9 in Associated Press poll

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville will begin the season ranked No. 9 in the Associated Press preseason poll.

It's the same ranking the Cardinals received in the coaches poll conducted by USA Today, which marks the program's highest preseason ranking ever.

Alabama was a runaway No. 1 in the AP poll, followed by Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford and Georgia in the top five.

South Carolina, Texas A&M, Clemson, Louisville and Florida round out the top ten.

U of L is the only American Athletic Conference team in the rankings, and no Cardinal opponent is in the preseason Top 25.

The University of Kentucky will face half of the preseason top 10: Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisville and Florida.
