NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) -- Southern Indiana police have donated marijuana grow lights seized during a raid on a pot-growing operation to a children's club that will use the lights to boost their indoor vegetable garden.

Clarksville Police Chief Mark Palmer says the department previously used a town garbage truck's compactor to destroy confiscated grow lights and related items.

He estimates the equipment donated Wednesday to the Ed Endres Boys and Girls Club in New Albany is worth about $2,200. The items donated include two sets of grow lights, transformers and replacement bulbs.

Club director Christina Allen tells The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky. the new lighting will make it much easier to provide equal lighting for the cucumber, lettuce, tomato and basil plants the club's children planted in an indoor tower garden.
