LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)---A community center in the Smoketown neighborhood remains closed this weekend, due to a lack of funding.
On Friday, community members and employees of the Presbyterian Community Center, made a plea to the community for help.
They called on 2,000 community members to donate $100 dollars.
About 100 kids use the community center daily.
Board members say when the nearby Sheppard Square housing development was demolished, they lost clients and funding.
So far, since the announcement, around $6,000 dollars has been raised.
Officials are hoping to raise $200,000.
Their top priorities are meeting payroll next Friday, making sure the nearby Child Development Center can stay open, and trying to reopen the community center.
