Chocolate Supreme Pie scores big at Kentucky State Fair contest

The new Pillsbury Pet-Ritz Pie Baking Championship was overflowing with creative pies at the Kentucky State Fair! Nearly 30 adults from the Louisville area showed up to compete.

Patricia Johnson of Louisville was a top finalist for her Supreme Chocolate Pie.

The new Pillsbury Pet-Ritz Pie Baking competition calls for crowd-pleasing pies and awards a total of $350 in cash prizes.

Use a Pet-Ritz pie crust from your freezer section and dream up any delicious dessert pie. Feature fruits, custards, cream or any other creative flavor combination. Judging is based on taste, appearance, creativity and simplicity.

Supreme Chocolate Pie


1 Pillsbury Pet-Ritz Frozen Pie Crust

1st Layer:

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened

1 egg, beaten

3/4 cup sugar

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2nd Layer:

1/2 cup sugar

4 tablespoons self rising flour

2 tablespoons cocoa powder

1 tablespoon margarine

2 cups milk

2 egg yolks, beaten

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3rd Layer:

2 tablespoons melted white chocolate morsels

2 tablespoons chocolate syrup

1/4 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate morsels

1/4 cup chocolate candy pieces, (Heath)

For 1st Layer: Using a mixer, blend the cream cheese, egg, sugar, lemon juice and vanilla together until smooth and creamy. Spread evenly onto bottom of the Pillsbury Pet-Ritz pie crust.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes. Remove and cool.

For 2nd Layer: Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl and set aside. Melt margarine; add milk and eggs, and then vanilla extract. Mix in dry ingredients, stirring well. Cook over low heat or double boiler, stirring often until thick. Pour over cream cheese filling. Cool.

For 3rd Layer: Drizzle melted white chocolate morsels over cooled pie. Drizzle chocolate syrup. Sprinkle mixed semi-sweet chocolate morsels and chocolate candy pieces over pie as desired. Refrigerate pie. Serve cold.

Yields: 1 (9-inch) pie; Serves 8.
