Sully's employee accused of trashing business
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Sully's Restaurant & Saloon, a popular 4th Street Live night spot, was trashed last week and forced to close for several hours.
According to an arrest report, it happened between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Aug. 23, and police say the man responsible worked there.
"One of the employees of Sully's was inside the restaurant after hours," said LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell.
Police say that employee was 26-year-old Walter Karlen.
"At some point he begin to destroy the inside of the restaurant, causing about $20,000 in damage," Mitchell said. "Several tables were turned over, a lot of glass broken and stoves turned over."
Management at Sully's would not comment on camera but did release a statement saying the restaurant reopened several hours after the damage was discovered.
"I don't know why anyone would come in and destroy the property like that," Mitchell said.
Police say Karlen turned himself in on Aug. 27, and Mitchell says he is now facing a serious charge.
"Obviously Criminal Mischief, Mitchell said, "for the simple fact of the amount of damage taking place -- it's a felony, and certainly it's very serious."
Right now, the motive is still unclear but management did confirm that Karlen is no longer employed at Sully's.
