Kentucky State Fair attendance up slightly over last year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Attendance at the Kentucky State Fair was up slightly over last year, with 615,648 people visiting.

"We celebrated 11 days of Kentucky music, art, culture, agriculture and entertainment, and the response we heard was tremendous," said Kentucky State Fair Board President and CEO Clifford "Rip" Rippetoe in a news release.

Weekends were the best-attended, and the final day of the fair drew 9,000 more fairgoers than last year.

The Fair Board says it heard positive feedback from the new weekend parking plan, which allowed people to park for free at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and board shuttles to the fair.

With the old Cardinal Stadium considered unsafe, State Fair concerts were held on the field.  Monday Aug. 19's Casting Crowns concert drew more than 12,000 people and the Montgomery Gentry concert on Fri. August 23 drew more than 15,000.
