LOUISVILLE,Ky. (WDRB) -- A burial program is striving to give the homeless the same dignity and respect as everyone else.
Buddy Dumeyer leads personalized prayer services once a week as he buries Louisville's poor and homeless.
"When you and I came into this world we had a mom and a dad, we had loving arms and people to welcome us into this world," Dumeyer said. "We want to give people back with that same love and those same arms."
The coroner's office has teamed up with local high schools to put on the burials. The students carry each person to his or her final resting place and mourn the loss.
"It really made me have a better appreciation for life and my family around me because people who don't have anyone...we need to be here for them as well," said St. Xavier High School senior Sam Gray.
