LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- Sunday's Cardinal football home opener brought out several generations of Cards fans and after last year's impressive performance, they have high hopes for this season.

"I think they should go undefeated this year and hopefully play for the national championship," said Patrick Schutte, a U of L fan.

"I have faith in them and I think they will do awesome," said U of L grad student Jenna Missi.

"I promise you. The best season ever," said another fan.

Fans are making promises and being very optimistic, but for good reason.

"I think they have a better team this year. Teddy Bridgewater's back so I think he can take them all the way and they have a great receiving core," Schutte told WDRB.

With all the hype surrounding Louisville athletics lately, fans say they're more committed than ever before.

"I'm going to follow them all season and try to come to every game," Schutte added.

"Everyone seems super excited and having a blast and really happy it's starting the football season," Missi said.

"We can expect a lot but the best is all we can ask for and we're going to do that," Roberts added.

Sunday's win against Ohio has fans looking ahead to what other teams might bring to field this season.

"Cincinnati maybe or Southwest Florida always gives them a challenge," said Schutte.

While some are focused on field play, others show support solely from the parking lot.

"Everyone is so welcoming. You can basically go up to any tailgate and just join on in. Everyone is here to just have fun and relax and prepare for the game," said Missi.

"All we can expect is that all, everybody live to be healthy, safe, play well. The rest will come. Execute. That's what we're going to do," Roberts told WDRB.
