LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's a race against time to combat a rare and fatal aging disease -- and today one boy's parents raised funds for a cure.
Zach Pickard is a 6-year-old Lexington boy with progeria, a rare genetic aging syndrome.
There are only 100 cases of the disease in the entire world, and most children only live to the age of 13.
This morning, dozens ran in the Race Against Time in Cherokee Park to raise money to help find a cure and raise awareness.
This is the third year for the fundraiser, and his parents say the event just keeps getting bigger.
Event organizers estimate they raised $5,000 during today's fundraiser.
