LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- I-71 southbound at mile marker 14 near Crestwood is back open after a fatal accident.
LMPD officers and Oldham County authorities responded to crash at the Jefferson-Oldham County line just after 10 p.m. Saturday.
A Volkswagon was traveling the wrong way on I-71 and then hit an Infiniti, where the driver of the Volkswagon was ejected from the car. Witnesses on the scene say it was a very serious accident that involved multiple cars.
Traffic was stopped for several miles while officials investigated the crash.
71-year-old Donald Pickett was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from his vehicle.
27-year-old George Chavez was the passenger of the Infiniti and was also killed in result to the accident.
There were two others involved in accident who were injured and taken to University Hospital. The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.
It has not yet been determined if the drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts.
Alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor to causing the crash, which is still under investigation.
