Retirees warned of fraudulent letter asking for repayments

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen is warning of a fraudulent letter being circulated among retirees that claims they were overpaid.

The letter claims that around 26,000 people were overpaid; it says an agent will contact them for repayment.  The Auditor's Office says the letter has a forged signature of a former auditor.

It says people should know that the Auditor's Office has not found any such overpayments, and is not looking to collect any money.

The Kentucky Retirement Systems and Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System have been notified of the scam.  It's not know how many retirees received the letter.
