LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Firefighters rescued a 2-year-old girl and an adult from an 15-foot well in a practice football field at Russell Lee Park Thursday evening. They were later reported to have suffered no serious injuries.
The incident was reported about 7:45 p.m. Thursday at Russell Lee Park, which is east of the Shawnee Expressway between Magnolia and Southern Avenues.
The two spent more than hour trapped in the hole. The child was comforted by a football coach who eased himself into the hole to help her, according to WDRB's Kelly Davis.
Authorities described the hole as approximately 18 feet deep. Metro EMS took the child and coach to hospitals for treatment, authorities said.
Witnesses told WDRB News the child fell into the hole as she ran on a football practice field. The coach at a football practice eased himself into the hole to comfort the child, knowing he could get stuck as well, Davis reported.
According to Davis, the child's mother identified her as Miana Moore. The mom watched anxiously as firefighters continued their work. Davis also reported that witnesses identified the football coach as Terrance Washington.
We're told there was at least one orange traffic cone marking the site of the well.
