Louisville youth football team takes the field after near-tragic accident

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A west Louisville youth football team takes the gridiron days after a near-tragic rescue on their practice field.

The West End Yellow Jackets won their game today at Waggener Field.

The team was practicing at Russell Lee Park on Thursday night when a two-year-old girl fell into a 15 foot hole.

That's when Yellow Jackets head coach Terrance Washington jumped into the hole to help.

Louisville Fire and Rescue pulled both safely out.

Coach Washington said he's a little sore, but glad to be back on the sidelines.

Coach Washington said the team has not yet secured a temporary practicing field, but says he hopes to return "home" to Russell Lee Park whenever the city reopens it.
