LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)---It's the perfect way to tailgate. You have cornhole, dozens of friends and family members, and a selection of food for everyone.
"We're really big U of L fans. We tailgate all the time," says Jeff Miller.
In the spot where Vonnie Evans and Jeff Miller traditionally tailgate with friends, they took tailgating to the extreme on Saturday.
"We're getting married," says Vonnie Evans.
They broke tradition and tied the knot in the stadium parking lot.
The bride wore white, mixed with some red.
"I'm happy for her. If she's happy, I'm always happy," says Brian Evans, the bride's son.
The couple didn't meet at a game.
"No, no. That would have been perfect though," says Jeff Miller.
However, it is the place they wanted to spend their special day.
"He told me about the theme of the wedding, I thought it was a great idea and I couldn't wait to do it," says Cameron Paul, the best man.
The fans had a U of L wedding cake , a gift area, and the marriage license to make it official.
"We're gonna fill that out and get them married," said Gary Fields, the justice of the peace.
The bride's son walked her down the aisle, as you would say.
Friends cheered the couple on.
"I Jeff take you Vonnie to be my lawfully wedded wife," says Jeff Miller.
"To have and to hold from this day forward," says Vonnie Evans.
After the vows were read and rings exchanged, it was time to make the marriage official.
"Mr. Miller, would you like to kiss your bride? I think so," says Jeff Miller as he laughs.
The couple says it's not about where you take your vows, but rather, who you take them with.
In an ending that is only fitting for these fan, they made their grand exit on a motorized cooler scooter and took off to see U of L play.
Wedding or not, they simply couldn't miss the game.
"I wouldn't want it no other way. I wouldn't want it no other way," says Vonnie Evans.
This couple planned this wedding in just 2 weeks.
They plan to celebrate in the same tailgating spot for future anniversaries.
