TARC invests millions for upgraded buses

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- New TARC buses hit on road on Tuesday morning to be used on routes linking Louisville and Southern Indiana and some express routes.

TARC is investing $30 million through 2017 to upgrade its buses.

$20 million of that money came from the Ohio River Bridges Project. Kentucky and Indiana Transportation Departments allotted $10 million each.

TARC says the money for public transportation is used to reduce congestion, and improve cross-river mobility during bridges construction and for years after.

The new buses will replace ones that are at least 15 years old, and have traveled more than 500,000 miles.
