Woman claims accused killer Clary is lying about motive

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The ex-girlfriend of a man murdered in west Louisville in 2011 says his accused killer is lying about why she says she did it.

Bobbie Joe Clary says she beat 64-year-old George Murphy to death because he was trying to rape her.

But Stephanie Seaton, who is the mother of Murphy's child, told WDRB there's no way that could have happened.

"Anybody that knew him would never believe that he would ever do that to anybody.  I mean he was just the nicest person that you would ever want to meet.  He would give you anything," said Seaton.

Police say Clary beat Murphy to death with a hammer, then robbed him, stole his van and tried to dispose of evidence.

Seaton says Murphy knew Clary, but she's not sure of their relationship.

Earlier this week, a judge ruled that Clary's partner, Geneva Case, must testify against her. They had claimed spousal privilege because the two entered into a same-sex civil union in Vermont in 2004.

Court documents reveal Clary confided in Case and confessed to the murder.

The daughter Stephanie Seaton had with George Murphy is now five years old. Seaton says she can't bring herself to tell her that George was murdered, she just knows that her father died.
