Ali Center to host Humanitarian Awards

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thursday night, the Muhammad Ali Center is hosting the Ali Humanitarian Awards, which will honor people who have made a difference in their communities.

Wednesday night, filmmakers gathered at the center for the premiere of "Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight."  Thursday night, The Ali Center will give ten awards to celebrities, politicians, and others who have done humanitarian work.

Former president Jimmy Carter will receive a Lifetime Achievement award.  Singer Christina Aguilera will also receive the first ever Muhammad Ali Humanitarian of the Year award for her work on hunger relief.

Michael Bolton will take the stage to receive an award for gender equality.  Bolton said, "And I think it's phenomenal to see someone that was my champion when I was about ten years old, in the ring, evolve in a way that he became even more of a champion, in my eyes, because he used all of his success and ability to bring the press and raise money and raise awareness to all these events involving human rights."

Six other awards were inspired by Ali's six core principles which serve as the foundation of the Ali Center.
