JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- A former Jeffersonville High School volunteer band assistant is wanted by police after officials say he had a sexual relationship with one of his students.
21-year-old William O. Mackle is charged with sexual misconduct with a minor. That's a class C felony.
"Mr. Mackle was a band volunteer at Jeffersonville High School and while there he did develop an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old female student," said Clark County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jeremy Mull.
Court records state that Mackle and the girl "passionately kissed and had clothed simulated intercourse."
Records show it happened at Mackle's house on Webster Boulevard after the two had exchanged text messages for about a month.
"Ultimately, this culminated in him having her over to his house and engaging in some serious physical contact with her that did justify this criminal charge," said Mull.
Jeffersonville Police detectives have been searching for Mackle.
WDRB went to his listed address but no one answered the door.
Mull says the situation didn't come to light until the girl's parents searched her ipad.
"The parents in this case took the very wise step of monitoring some of her activity on one of her electronic devices," he told WDRB.
Mull says cases like this one are becoming more common.
"I think that children nowadays have more opportunities to communicate in private with adults because of technology," he said.
Records show Mackle and the underage girl were interviewed separately by police and both admitted to the relationship.
The victim told police she loves him.
Mackle told police he didn't mean for this to happen.
A Greater Clark County Schools representative said Mackle was in his first year volunteering with the band.
A statement from the district says Mackle was immediately dismissed when the allegations of inappropriate conduct were first reported and that he has been banned from school property.
"Jeffersonville High School always takes every step to protect the students there," said Mull.
Mackle is charged with sexual misconduct with a minor.
Jeffersonville Police have been unable to find him. He's thought to be driving a yellow Camaro.
If you know where he might be, you're asked to give them a call.
