LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's Fire Prevention Week and officials are reminding folks about what they can do to avoid risky situations.
Officials served chili to dozens of folks walking through downtown Louisville during lunchtime today. They say they want to remind them to "get cookin'" with fire safety. Fire departments across the country focus on different safety topics each year. This year it's preventing kitchen fires.
"A lot of fire dept runs are made because of kitchen fires. So a lot of the tips are to keep your kids away from the stove, keep handles in, that whole thing," said Cpn. Brian Meurer of the Louisville Fire Department.
Officials say they also wanted to get the word out for the Great Louisville Fire Drill happening this Sunday. The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Iroquois Park. A wreath was also placed on the fallen firefighters memorial as part of today's event.
