LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A special honor for fallen Bardstown Officer Jason Ellis and his family.

His alma mater, the University of the Cumberlands, retired his baseball jersey over the weekend.

Cumberlands' baseball coach also announced a new award called the "Jason Ellis Man of Character Award," to be given out each year.

Ellis' number "5" is the first the school has retired.

The Cincinnati Reds signed him into its farm system after graduation in 2003.

Ellis was shot and killed in an ambush near the Blue Grass Parkway in May.

Police have made no arrests in the case.
