LOUISVILLE, Ky - Walk, bike, or dance but, whatever you do, you won't be able to drive to take part in the second annual Cyclouvia. The event, taking place on Sunday, celebrates healthy lifestyles and local businesses.
The free event will shut off traffic along a 3 mile stretch of Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue from Broadway to Douglass Loop.
City planners say the event is designed to encourage alternative forms of transportation and boost the local economy.
"We think that if people are out walking and riding their bikes then it's better for business," Michael King, City Planner for Louisville Metro, said. "Because people are not going by at 45 miles an hour. They can see some new businesses and stop in and spend a few dollars."
Cyclouvia starts Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. and ends at 6 p.m.
Three major intersections will be open for vehicle crossing, but participants are allowed only to walk, bike, or skate along Bardstown Road.
Road closings and traffic notes Bardstown Road from the Douglass Loop to Broadway will be closed from 2pm to 6pm
Cross traffic will be allowed at Grinstead Drive, Highland Avenue, and Eastern Parkway
