LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former Grayson County Sheriff's detective will be sentenced Tuesday for stealing evidence, abusing his power and acting in a manner no law enforcement officer should. But the shocking claims against Terry Blanton don't end there.
"I received benefits from Terry as well drugs and money pretty much to keep my mouth shut about things," explained Daniel McStoots.
McStoots says for two years he and his estranged wife, Hope Shelburne, were trapped in a tangled web after being recruited to work for then Grayson County Sheriff's Detective, Terry Blanton.
"He asked me to be a confidential informant for him…I had to give up names, give him information make drug buys," explained Shelburne in an interview with WDRB earlier this month.
But Shelburne and McStoots allege that's not all Blanton was asking them to do.
"Terrible phone calls, things he wanted done to him, sexual favors," McStoots recalled. "I remember an incident that he called and said she was going to meet him today and she was going to perform oral sex on him whether she liked it or not and she knew what would happen."
"We never had sexual intercourse at the office but other place he would have me meet," Shelburne said in an interview with WDRB.
Both Shelburne and McStoots say Blanton threatened to send them to jail if they refused to cooperate.
"I've actually got a citation that Terry Blanton (gave) me and he said if things didn't go the way they were supposed to go I could just fill it out with whatever I was supposed to be in trouble for," said McStoots.
Blanton has pleaded guilty to hindering the apprehension of Hope Shelburne who was wanted by police on what McStoots says was a theft charge in Meade County. Blanton has also pleaded guilty to and stealing drugs from the Grayson County Evidence locker. McStoots and Shelburne say Blanton was giving the drugs to them.
"Hydrocodone, Oxycontin, Morphine," described McStoots.
Three people including Hope Shelburne have filed civil lawsuits against Terry Blanton and his supervisor Grayson County Sheriff, Rick Clemons.
"I can tell you this: Rick Clemons, the Sheriff of Grayson County never turned a blind eye. The minute he realized there was an issue he moved forward," the Sheriff told WDRB in an interview last week.
"We felt helpless. She felt that she had to do those things and I felt like I had to let it go on," McStoots explained.
McStoots says the whole ordeal put such a strain on their marriage they're now seeking a divorce. Blanton's attorney has repeatedly denied our requests for comment.
