LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say speed was a factor in a fatal crash in West Louisville early Wednesday morning.
Metro Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley tells WDRB that the car was going up to 80 miles an hour when the man driving it apparently lost control and hit a tree.
The force of the impact split the car in two. The victim was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene of his injuries. The coroner's office identifies him as 27-year-old Michael Wilson.
Debris surrounded the crash scene in the yard of a vacant house on Muhammad Ali Boulevard near 22nd Street.
Police put up crime tape up to block traffic on 22nd Street, as the investigation continued.
