Memorial to be held for police-involved shooting victim

Posted: Updated:

HODGENVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Community members are holding a service to remember the life of a man shot to death by police Sunday, Oct. 13.

Hodgenville police were attempting to serve a warrant at 59-year-old Benjamin Burba's house last weekend when one of the two officers shot him.  They say he pulled out an air rifle.

The pastor of his church is expecting a large crowd in support of Burba at his memorial service on Sunday, Oct. 20.  Burba would have been 60 years old on the date of the memorial.

Neighbors and friends say the man had a history with mental illness and they believe the situation could have been avoided.

The service is scheduled at 3 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Larue County Church of Christ.  Pastor Charles Wilson expected a large crowd.

"I expect standing room only," said Wilson.

Wilson said the community was shocked and saddened to hear of Burba's death.
